Hey all. If you're reading this it's mostly likely you've already been invited to what's being called our church passionate core and transformation team. However you may have no clue as what this really means and why this team is so important to you and your church. This post is to clarify that for you and to hopefully encourage you to commit wholeheartedly to this team and it's mission for our church. So continue reading to find out more.
First and most importantly, there's the real-world need for a living, active, vital church. A church that impacts the lives of it's members and the community around it. This world needs Jesus more than anything else and the church, as his body, is Jesus in world – as long as it remains connected to Him, the head. When the body is connected to the head, the church moves with the purpose, passion, and power of Jesus in the world and even the gates of hell cannot prevail against it!
The issue is that the church (filled as it is with human beings ) tends to drift and in so doing becomes weak and irrelevant in a world that remains in need of Christ. It drifts because the people that make up the church drift; only returning to the real work of Christ when those same people come to grips with their real condition and do what it takes to fix the situation. Then the real Jesus can encounter this world bringing redemption, healing, judgement, justice and peace it so desperately needs.
So what's the passionate core/transformation team have to do with any of this? I'll explain:
Every church, at each of it's organizational levels, and much like every other organization, has a lifespan. The lifespan of a church, as Christ's body tends to correlate to it's relationship to the head. In its early stages the church tends to move in power. This is shown by it growing in number, ministry and maturity. It's connected to the head and so is clear about it's purpose and need to depend on Christ and moves in power and passion in the world. After some years the drifting begins to set in and church growth tends to level off for a few years. This is followed by a time of decline until ultimately it dies. Many times this is a 15 year lifespan of 5 years of growth, 5 years of leveling off, and then 5 years of decline. So as the church drifts from it connection to it's head, it heads towards decline and ultimately death. Jesus said, "Apart from me you can do nothing."
This move toward death is only halted when the people that make up the organization come to grips with their reality and do what it takes to fix the situation. So every church that continues to grow will have a time in their lifespan when they take stock of their current situation and then have the courage to do what it takes to ensure the body remains connected to the head. The church that does this on a regular basis will continue to grow and continue to impact its world.
Our community needs Pathway Church. You and your household need a strong church. Pathway church should be this in your life. But Pathway is moving through this lifespan. It will level off, it will decline, and it will die unless some of it's people come to grips with it's current reality and take the courageous steps to reinvigorate, renew, and reconnect to the Head so it can continue to move with the purpose, passion, and power of Jesus in our world.
This is why we need what we're calling our Passionate core and Transformation team. These folks will get together to better understand the work of the church so that it can discern the true reality of the church's current state and then do what it takes to ensure we're connected to our head so we can move with His purpose, passion, and power in our world.
Be part of this team. I will look for you Sunday morning at 9:30am for training and prayer.
